Abstract
We will discuss a recent result classifying the possible growth types of the set of orders of finite quotients of a finitely generated group.
We also discuss applications of this result to the set of orders of various families of symmetric graphs.About the speaker:Gabriel Verret obtained his PhD in 2011 from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. He was a postdoc at the University of Primorska in Koper (also in Slovenia) for one year, then a DECRA fellow at the University of Western Australia in Perth. Since 2016, he has been at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). He mostly works in finite group theory and applications to automorphisms of discrete structures, especially understanding vertex-transitive graphs with large automorphism groups.
